Analysis of stress transfer and rib spalling control of section coal pillar in shallow buried coal seam

Abstract
The occurrence conditions of coal seams in northern Shaanxi are generally characterized by large thickness and shallow buried depth. During the mining process of the working face, the phenomenon of coal pillar spalling in the section is serious, which brings great potential hidden dangers to the safe production of the mine. Therefore, it is urgent to explore the stress transfer law and spalling control method of the section coal pillar. In this paper, through the analysis of the load transfer mechanism and rib spalling of the overlying rock of the section coal pillar, the stress transfer effect and rib spalling degree of the overlying rock fracture on the section coal pillar during the mining process of the working face are determined, and the stress transfer mechanism of the section coal pillar by the overlying rock structure is revealed. The results show that the degree of rib spalling and internal damage of the section coal pillar are closely related to the length of the key block B of the masonry beam formed by the overlying strata and the position of the fracture line. By changing the strike and dip fracture line position and length of the overlying masonry beam strata of the section coal pillar, the rib spalling of the section coal pillar is effectively controlled and its stress and damage degree are reduced. The rib spalling control in the mine site has achieved good field application results.
